Bella Counts, Editor-In-Chief
Class of 2026
Bella is a senior from Morehead City, North Carolina. She is majoring in English and Comparative Literature with a double major in Advertising and Public Relations. She has academic interests in disability studies and 19th century British literature, but professionally she’s drawn to branding and communications work. In her free time, Bella is an avid (but unskilled) line dancer and an enthusiastic (but clumsy) skater.

Rotem Olsha, Treasurer
Class of 2025
Rotem is a junior from Toronto, Canada. She is majoring in Neuroscience with a minor in Medicine, Literature, and Culture. She enjoys traveling, volunteering, and spending time outdoors and hopes to pursue a career in pediatric medicine.

Yan Zhu, Layout Editor
Class of 2026
Yan is a Senior from Hangzhou, China. She is majoring in neuroscience and communication studies with a concentration in media production and technology. She hopes to pursue a career in physical therapy and healthcare with a focus on sports. She loves band music, avant-garde movies, and watching operas and musicals.

Corey Curtis, Art Director
Class of 2026
Corey is a Senior from Cary, North Carolina. They are majoring in Environmental Health Science with a minor in Medicine, Literature, and Culture. In their free time they are an artist, DJ at WXYC 89.3fm, bug enthusiast, and tea enjoyer.

Alicia Equan, Marketing Director
Class of 2026
Alicia is a senior from Charlotte, North Carolina. She is majoring in biomedical engineering. She hopes to pursue a career in dentistry. In her free time, she likes to crochet, watch TV, and hang out with her friends.

Hrishika Muthukrishnan, Graduate Editor
UNCSOM Class of 2027
Hrishika is a third-year medical student at UNC, from Cary, North Carolina. She graduated from UNC-CH with a major in neuroscience and minor in chemistry. She is passionate about community service and mentoring. In her free time, she loves to read fantasy books, dance hip hop and play tennis.

Naomi Lytle, Editor
Class of 2026
Naomi is a senior from Winston Salem, NC. She is majoring in Psychology and Linguistics with a minor in Data Science. She hopes to attend graduate school for Cognitive Science and later pursue a career in User Experience. She loves to play or watch horror video games. Her current favorite is Resident Evil 7.

Shritha Gayathri, Editor
Class of 2026
Shritha is a senior from Dallas, Texas. She is majoring in Biology with minors in Chemistry and Medicine, Literature, and Culture. Shritha is passionate about the intersection between ethical discourse, health humanities, and medical care. As an aspiring physician, she finds joy in exploring the morally gray spaces of lived healthcare experiences. In her free time, Shritha enjoys reading memoirs, visiting national parks, and trying new food with friends.

Mae Ross Brockman, Editor
Class of 2027
Mae is a junior from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She majors in English with a concentration in Science, Medicine, and Literature and minors in Biology and Chemistry. She is passionate about social justice and women’s health and plans to attend medical school after graduating. She loves reading, Cold Stone Creamery, and watching Gossip Girl with her little sister.

Ananya is sophomore from Cary, NC. She is majoring in Neuroscience. Even though she has a big sweet tooth she is the worst baker she knows.

Joan Lee, Editor
Class of 2028
Joan is a sophomore from Cary, North Carolina. She is majoring in Neuroscience with minors in Creative Writing and Medicine, Literature, and Culture. She hopes to pursue a career as novelist and physician, and she is passionate about queer literature, Esports analysis, and emergency medicine. In her free time, she enjoys writing in boba shops and training Taekwondo.

Jessica is a freshman from Chengdu, China. She is majoring in Sociology and Nutrition, focusing on women’s health, body image, and marginalized communities. She loves K-Pop, traveling, art history, and spending time with her dog, Kookie.

Arjun Gupta, Editor
Class of 2028
Arjun is a sophomore from Irvine, California, pursuing a major in Health Policy and Management with minors in Chemistry and Biology. In his free time, he enjoys seeing live music, playing basketball, and cooking.

Dr. Jane F. Thrailkill, Faculty Advisor
Department of English and Comparative Literature
Jane F. Thrailkill is Bank of America Honors Distinguished Term Associate Professor who advises students involved in the Literature, Medicine, and Culture program, teaches in the School of Medicine’s Intensive Integration seminar, and is co-director of the HHIVE Lab. Trained as a literary scholar, she works on the relationship between literature and science, widely construed. Her first book is Affecting Fictions: Mind, Body, and Emotion in American Literary Realism and she is finishing a second monograph on the play-based philosophies of the James siblings, Alice, William, and Henry.

Dr. Kym Weed, Faculty Advisor
Department of English and Comparative Literature
Kym Weed is a Teaching Assistant Professor, the Co-Director of the HHIVE Lab, and the Associate Director of the graduate programs in Literature, Medicine, and Culture. Her areas of interest, both in teaching and research, include health humanities, literature and medicine, and disability studies. Her work has appeared in Literature and Medicine and The Journal of Medical Humanities.
